Default loud turbo hissing, hole in intercooler pipe maybe???

ive noticed my vectra i just bought (wish i didnt now!) the turbo is hissing loud when i rev like a dump valve sort of, and when i come off the accelerator i feel quite a clunk, thinking it may be a hole in the intercooler pipe causing loss of pressure... and one of the big pipes coming off my engine is actually taped up with electrician tape!!! but looks pretty air tight... hmm any ideas people

    What endine is it?

Best bet is to get someone to hold the revs down while you have a look around the hoses, any leaks will be easy to spot

Try checking your turbo pipe (large one at right side between engine and battery compartment) for splits / perishing.

If you have problems with your car driving too, also check your boost vacuum hoses at the front of your engine.

Have to taken the plastic engine cover off?

The intercooler pipe on the left that runs across the top of the engine seems to fail alot - mine had the same symptoms as yours and the intercooler pipe had a large split underneath

Definalty a hole in one of the inter cooler pipes mate. I had the exact same thing. I coundt believe the noise it made! I bodged a repair whilst I waited for my sspare bits to arrive. Lasted about a week then it sounded like a fart from a baloon! If its the right hand pipe check out my repair for £30:

Best thing to do is is take the plastic cover off the engine and check all the intercooler hoses marked in purple below. If the covers on its really hard to detect where its coming from. If your pipes got tape around it then thats the most likely place to start. When you floor the acclerator theres a lot of pressure going through that hose and it expands and thats when its probably getting around the tape. You need someone to rev the car whilst you have a look.

If you dont want to make our own replacment you fet silicone replacement from ebay for both sides:

Vauxhall sel lthe whole intercooler pipe set for £120. They dont sell pipes seperatly.
