    Unhappy Doh! Bonnet Cable!

Went to open the bonnet today and the cable handle just came out in my hand, does the cable look its broken if its out this far?

Or will I be able to open with pliers and someone on the bonnet method? I really dont fancy wrecking the grill or having to struggle getting the bumper off like Ive seen in threads I found when searching!

dont bother messing with the grill. get the car up on a lift , remove the bottom engine cover and you can reach thru with a metal bar/rod and flick the bonnet release latch. mine was done and the cable readjusted for 1 hrs labour at a local garage. £25

Grab the wire loosely with pliers opposite side of the handle, and pull the handle... Will that not work if the pliers then force the plastic sheath back?

did you get this sorted? same thing happened to me today, managed to get the bonnet opening from underneath the car - now works on the cable if i hold the black sheath and pull the silver cable. dont wanna mess around to much in terms of putting the interior housing back in as im scared of the bonnet getting stuck again.

The cable had come off the bonnet end so had to take it a garage, he ended up having to take the bumper off to open it! But he refitted the cable and adjusted it all for me.

I've just done mine today and followed your instructions (ta very much), I took the belly pan off, and I could reach up past the fans and push the spring end with my thumb. On a DTi there is no need to break anything or remove the grills/bumper. The cable had come loose because it was too slack. Just wish I'd adjusted it before.
