Default what are the early diesel vectra c's like?

looking at getting a early vec c in the next couple of months and wanting an elite model. what are the diesels like in these? the majority of the ones im looking at are 2.2 diesel elites or 1.8 petrol, my dad had a 1.8 vec c active and seems fine to drive, just dont want to narrow my options down, so want a general idea of all the engines in the elite range

ive heard good things about the 1.9 but havent seen any this early in the range as yet. when did they start that engine and does the elite come with them?

Mine is a 2,2dti. Owned it for close on three years and aint had a major engine issue yet, 68k on the clock now.

Had a burst boost hose once.

A great engine if you can put up with the clattery sound.

1.9 cdti engines started in 2004

Ive got an 03 2.2dti sri and its great! as Keithy says, theyre not the quietest engine you'll ever hear but it goes like stink and returns 42mpg!

My only criticism is the gearbox. when driving in slow moving traffic there's a point where in any other car, you'd go into 2nd and pull away but the 2.2dti cant do that so you have to go down to 1st and get a right old jerk as you let the clutch out.

Got me a 2.2 DTi, no issues at 55k.
Best diesel engine in the range IMHO.

2.2dti at 96000 but runs great - does sound a bit less refined than the 1.9 cdti but very reliable

From my own experiences the 2.0Dti is slow but a good motor the 2.2Dti is the one to have if you are not thinking of the 1.9 CDTi or 3.0 V6

Got a 2.2dti SRI 2002 with almost 80k on the clock and it pulls really well. On idle its not as refined as the 1.9cdti's but on the move its good. Mechanically its pretty sound. The likely issues you are to get under the bonnet are split vacuum pipes and Intercooler hoses but both are a piece of cake to replace (Silicone Vacuum pipes off ebay for £6!)

Its also a 5 speed instead of a 6 speed so it kinda feels like you're driving a petrol. If you did look at the 1.9cdti the 150hp 16v has more issues than the 120bhp 8v.

With all of the diesels its recommended to clean the EGR valve and a boost sensors every so often (Yearly - depending on miles driven and how you drive) to avoid going into limp home mode.
