Default First detail on 5 year old flame red facelift

    Hi all

Yesterday I met up with a fellow Tamworth Veccy-C owner Messsy who kindly offered to introduce me properly to the wonderful world of detailing by demonstrating it on my car

Admittedly, before yesterday's session, I did think that the whole detailing thing was a little bit over rated and didn't really understand why people spend 2 days 'cleaning' their cars when I thought an hour with a bucket, turtle wax shampoo and a chamois leather would suffice! (Yes I can hear the gasps of shock! lol) However... having worked on my car with somewhat of a detailing pro and having spent time learning something about the products and techniques used to restore paintwork and bring the overall look of the car back as close as possible to showroom finished condition - I can honestly and finally now say - I get it!

Unfortunately I didn't capture pics before the first wash - but take it from me... it was last washed about 3 months ago and thinking back that was just before we drove 4000 miles to Spain and back in her! So you get the idea - totally filthy, full of tar spots, embedded dirt/grime and swirl marked to hell!

So thanks to Messsy, I'm now into the detailing scene and will slowly start to build up a small portfolio of products and will be reading more from this particular part of the forum to try and glean more info and gain more ideas from other people's experiences.

Anyway, without further ado - here are some pics

Firstly a quick blast with the pressure washer and then wash using Autoglym shampoo

    Wheel partially done

Alloys cleaned up using Muc Off Wheel Cleaner (we didnt have time to polish/wax the rims)

    Towel drying after wash

Next claying using Megs Clay Kit (we used a whole bottle including using it at the end, well worth the money and would recomend this step to anyone who has not used it before)

Then machine polishing using Menzerna Super Finish (I was amazed at this step, stunned for words, I think this is the step where I was properly convinced!)

She's definitely starting to shine now!

Next a coat of Collinite 476 Wax

Moving onto the glass using Auto Glym Car Glass Polish (Messsy told me how the rain repels off the glass in the rain. Another amazing visual )

Then onto blackening of tyres and trim using Sonus product (tyre and bumper dressing). At this point she is starting to look amazing and I'm totally convinced by the whole process

Now onto the metal and chrome detail using Autosol, They were BLACK before

Then rounded the day off by getting into all the nooks and crannys in the boot area and door shuts/stays/sills etc...

    Et voila

For a first pass on my 5 year old Veccy she's come up a real treat and I'm chuffed to bits! Lots more work to do... interior... engine bay... alloys... and then I've got keep up the good work to ensure she stays looking tip top. Totally sold to the process though and can appreciate it now.

Finally, a massive thank you to Messsy for all his effort, hard work, advice and tips. Top chap and a really enjoyable day. Looking forward to lots more like it!

    Cheers

We did use the rest of the Megs Spray to wipe the car over, also used Speed Wipe from Chemical Guys. Was debating to use Chemical Guys Sealant but opted for colly 476

It was truly an amazing day, we both worked hard and there was only 1 microfiber cloth dropped.

Even my mrs kept saying how nice she looked (the car not her lol) and thats a rare occasion

You are now infected with 'The Bug' :P

Consider the first post as a business card HaHa

Jokes aside, top man, good laugh, clean car, and a beer (or 2)

Good luck and dont forget http://cleanyourcar.co.uk

red is such a great colour when its polished up, looks superb for a 5 yr old car. I bet you sneaked out at least twice to take a peak that evening. To all the detailers - whats the best car colour for keeping paintwork looking like new ? My last 2 have been black and they show swirls more than silver or white im convinced.
