Default 2.2 Dti Died today need help !!

Hello all my trusty 2.2 Dti just died today. pulled up to a T junction and it begain spluttering and struggling and the engine management light came on tried to get it off the junction and it died completely would not even attempt to start
pushed it back to the side of the road and tried again nothing so reluctantly phoned the RAC and had a guy come to look at it fired straight away with easy start but then struggled and died off again. now when trying to start will fire once or twice but not fire up fully.
will try to get someone out tomorrow to read the codes unless any one near Burton fancys lending me a code reader.
has anyone had anything similar or would happen to know what this problem could be
any help would be greatfully recieved
    Many Thanks

As it runs on easy start we can be grateful it is not a 'mechanical' fault.

It must be fuel so start by checking that the fuel filter is full. Check quickly as the fuel drains back to the tank very quickly.
If the filter is 25mm or so below the top there is an air leak of some sort:-

Are you low on fuel (i.e. less than 1/4 tank?) as on Vectra B DTI's there is a fault where the last 1/4 tank can't be picked up and gives the symptoms you describe when air suddenly enters the system. Unsure if Vectra 'c' DTI suffers likewise though.

If the filter is full, begin to fear the fuel injection pump is u/s.

Check the fuse for the injection pump - just in case.
