    Default 53 reg y20dth

    just bought above for wife, struggling starting so i did all the things i could find on your forum (which is very inforrmative thanks alot)
    got it starting ok, next day started it let it idle for a few mins while i had diagnostic on it. next was very unpleasant , crash bang wallop timing chain had slipped, basically mechanic took a look and confirmed i need a full new engine.(car has done 6 miles since i bought it her)

    its a 16v y20dth, finding one is proving difficult, my question is can i put a 8v y20dth in ok? or even a 2.2 diesel engine in it.

    engine i get will have pump and injectors so can i get replaced and turn the key or do i need to start getting stuff coded?

    also how much loss of power from 16v to 8v and how much more power from the y20dth 16v to a 2.2 diesel?

    thanks very much for any help wifes killing me to get car back running,

    There's loads on ebay scrapping,you will need your fuel pump when swapping over engines though as there coded to car

    definatley are not mate theres 3 on ebay y20dth all 8 valve ,wish you was right though

    can i slap a 2.2dti in this if i use the variable turbo? dont mind a few mods to wiring etc...

    also if i wanted to use the new pump and ecu from engine i buy , how do i go about that as im sure theres a intermitent problem on the original pump and ecu.

    The DTi's are SingleOverHeadCamshaft engines with 4 valves per cylinder. I think that even the first 2.0Di X20DTL was a 16 valve

    ask the guy if its 8 or 16v i can go and get 8-10 8v y20dth tomorow no problem for as little as 250 quids, all i wanted to know was if would go strate in and if there would be any poweer difference that would bee hugely noticable.

    Was it a private sale or from a dealer? If it was a dealer of any sort they have to give at least 3 months warranty with any second hand car they sell so get them to sort it out for you. There is no way in gods green earth you should have to fork out for that.

    i wish you was right i bought it at the auctions...........i got the receipt out and it says no warranty
