    Default HID kit

How easy are these kits to fit, don't want to have to remove front bumper, but i think it is straight forward to do so, i've removed the rear in the past easily, and im looking for the brightest white without any blue and what should i go for 50 watt or 35 not looking to spend too much aroung the £50-£60 mark seem about right for me.

50watt 4300k and remember to mention the club for 10% off ...they are easy to fit but much easier with the bumper off

Have you had a look at this How To?

May make a difference if yours is pre or Facelift, mine's facelift and I can get reasonable access taking airbox out on drivers side, and wash tube etc passenger side. Not fitted HID's yet, most seem to go to HID direct or Hid-4-us

I'm interested in this too as the standard bulbs are pap and one of my Phillips Extremes just blew after 12 months. False economy to keep replacing them if HID kits are around 50-60 squids.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but can someone please summarise the advantages and disadvantages of the various types? 35w/50w and the other numbers... what does it all mean, what are the recommendations and what about legalities associated with the kits?

    Thanks.

35W and 4300K is the industry norm, but some manufacturers use 5000K and 6000K
The light from a 35W is double if not treble as bright as a standard 55W halogen H7.

50W is the thing that started in Japan and these can be six times brighter than a Halogen H7 and in the Vectra (as the design of the reflectors is pretty crap too) is what I use in 6000K colour, and are very very good. The result is still not as good as the DS1 35W fitted in my old Saab but now at least I can see on dip beam.

I in addition to the 6000K bulbs have ordered a set of 4300K as they were cheap to experiment with but I like Xenon bulbs that have the faintest hint of blue so will probably remain with the 6000K

Fitting is quite simple and can be done without removing the bumper though I did take mine off.
wiring is plug and play and as long as the set is canbus ready can be done in about 1 hour.

Fitted mine today, and went OK. Didnt take the bumper off, and took a while to find somewhere to secure the cancellor & ballast on the driver side. Just take out the air box and washer neck and you will be fine. you can take the bumper off , but only need to do so if you want to mount the ballast under the headlamp unit, but you will need to remove the headlight as well if you go down that route.
I mounted mine tight against the wing with cable ties and a small mudflap bracket that I had laying around.
I had just fitted the ballast and was just wiring it all up when the heavens opened, got drenched, but had to finish it with the wires in my hands.
I had the 35w 4500 kit, and even though some people dont bother with the cancellors, fitted them any way, as they must be there for a reason???
So its goodbye Nightbreakers, hello HID`s!
