Default strange problem on my cdti 150

hi guys basically what happen today was on my way back from work i stopped at my local bp to fuel up. well no diesel so on the move again. tank said 31 miles left, i went up a steep hill local, the spanner light came on as i went from 1st to second at 20mph and the car just stopped. it would turn but wont start. got my brother 2 bring some fuel turned the car around sent it down the hill still no start. as soon as i said iyl ring AA on next try car started up.

now the car drove but wont go past 1800 rpm. got it home as it was jus down road, there was no smoke or anyfin and on idle it wouldnt rev past 1800.

left it went in came out later and WOW the car is perfect noe.

wot i noticed is that before when i turned on ignition after all lights went out... there would be the 3 reds in bottom left and EML. after this issue im also getting above but with spanner but all ok when it starts up..

any suggestions... inlet is fine had egr month ago had service 2 weeks ago. injector plugs already done....

    I wouldn't worry.
Running out of fuel has generated numerous fault codes I'm sure.
I believe after approx 20 starts with no problems the fault codes will be erased.

i'd be more worried that you "ran out of fuel" despite a positive reading

i'd be checking out the fuel tank AND guages to make sure they are all ok.

also might be worth changing the fuel filter if you've run the dregs of the tank

31 miles left might be only a couple of litres, and Kamar does say up a steep hill. As the 31 miles is a calculation from the gauge reading (which very slowly varies according to the 'attitude'* of the car) and average consumption it is unwise to let it get that low and drive up a steep hill.
A Vectra 'B' will also pull in air with only a couple of litres left when going up a steep hill (we have a few steep hills around here).
I think the readout should say ' 31 miles if on the flat'

Also Op-com and Tech 2 have an adjustment facility if the readouts are found to be inaccurate. I've not used this but I presume you work out very accurately your fuel consumption and then make appropriate adjustments. Maybe if the fuel consumption had been adjusted accurately it would have read '10 miles or less' to go?

    * I don't mean an angry car, whether it is going up or downhill.......

Agree that changing the fuel filter is a good idea.

Never rely on the fuel computer its never accurate imo when my petrol gauge starts flashing i know it wont be long before i run out but i try not to let that happen as i don't want to be dragging crap up from bottom of the tank

Yes, I was going to ask if gauge also read fuel left. Almost certainly caused by low fuel uphill, changing fuel filter good idea. Didn't someone say disconnecting battery clears fault codes?
