    Default 888

Could someone explain to me exactly what constitues an 888 car!

Are they stock cars that have been 'breathed upon'?
    Is it a specific car?
Is it a package that can be applied retrospectively?
    Is it petrol or diesel
Is it to Vx as say Alpina is to BMW
Is the 888 here: http://www.vxrperformance.co.uk the same as the 888 here: http://www.thurlbymotors.net/index.p...d=89&Itemid=99

(I did try searching but "888" is too short)

It is a specific car. It is an Astra sport hatch 1.9CDTi 150 and in much the same way as MSD used to get hold of Vectra B's and spit out GSi's, triple 8 get hold of these and out comes a beast. Astra VXR owners err on the side of caution where these are concerned John (CDTi) will enlighten you, he has one of said beasts (jammy barsteward )

basically the only officially produced 888's were 100 limited edition vauxhall did on the astra coupe to mark their touring car success. these had special bodykit, suspension brakes interior all done by the touring car team 888.

now thurby motors who run the touring car team have done a run of 100 sportshatches modified by 888 with a remap to 200bhp big brakes, ltd edition alloys, suspension mods etc. these are NOT official vauxhall models and are basically modified cars.

There is no vectra 888 but you can get the remap done and buy other bits and bobs from the vxr performance centre so its kind of vauxhall aproved.

John (cdti) or MATT will be the best people to answer this better than i have lol

But that's what's confusing me. This 888 is petrol:

    http://www.vxrperformance.co.uk/perf...e/sprintr.html

Then here talks about a remap that will up the power from 200bhp to 245bhp.

    http://www.vxrperformance.co.uk/perf...Astra_G-T8.pdf

I thought it (the CDTi version) was already remapped from 150bhp to 200bhp. There's no way a remap on its own will extract almost 100bhp.

And where does it sit with the VxR? I would have thought that by the time you've paid the premium for an 888 and declared the mods, the actual cost must be pretty similar to an official VxR which has 40bhp more?

    My head hurts...

The first link is to a competition vehicle based on the Astra VXR with rollcage etc. The second link is the previous shape Astra that Graeme mentioned which was produced to celebrate BTCC success. The only 888 car based on the current model is the remapped cdti that John (cdti) drives.

    Morning

Yeah I have one of these little beauties!!!

Starts life as a brand new 06 model SRi XP with 1.9 150bhp diesel engine. It then is delivered to 888 and they fit the following:
    - Motorsport suspension
    - Remap to 200bhp which is switchable between 160 and 200 with the Sport button
    - Alcon 888 4 Pot Brakes and 330mm discs (Good as 911 Turbo brakes)
    - 18" Lightweight wheels with Toyo T1R tyres

The whole package is brought together and every mod compliments each other.

Thurlby came up with the idea, and 888 brought it to life so to speak

The first link is the VXR Sprint, stripped out and lightweight racing car. The 888 Astra is a fast road diesel car.

Cost wise I was quoted for a VXR:
£18800 for a brand new VXR in Arden Blue with 19's from Marshall's in Leicester (Top bloke there)

Cost wise I was quoted for a 888:
£18350 for a brand new 888 in Silver (Thurlby Motors) delivered to my door.

I went for the 888 for a few reasons:
    - I would spend £4k on the VXR making it into the 888 with wheels, brakes, tyres and remap and exhaust which would of made it more powerful. But also alot more expensive.
    - Economy. High teens to early twenties realistically for me in the VXR. I drive hard. 888 I am getting 38mpg on average most places.
    - I prefer the looks of the 888 as it is so low.

And finally I got offered £1500 more for my Vectra by Thurlby which made the deal a go'er for sure. They also delivered the car and picked it up from my work. I still haven't seen the Thurlby dealership.

Here is my Vec and the 888:

    The 888 arriving:

IMO the closest Vectra to a Vectra 888 was my old one with remap, suspension and interior. Brakes were next on the list!
