Default Smoking 2.2 direct , valve stem seals done but still smokes , what next?

Hi everyone , i have a signum 2,2 direct petrol that has caused me a fair amount of grief but i still like the car , the car is burning oil profusley and the did the valve stem oil seals but unfortunately it is still drinking oil at a hell of a rate and they now want to do the piston rings , are they in the right direction? will it cure the oil burn? is there anything else that would cause it to go through so muchoil ? the car is a 2004 with 84 k and a full service history , it is using a litre per 100 miles and smokes like second world war destroyer , please help with advice etc , i have spent too much to change the engine so thats a last resort many thanks again A Mcfarlane

There is mention in Vx TIS of oil scraper ring failure in the 2.2 direct. In fact the none direct had the same problem and I got mine replaced under warranty.

I have now had the engine completely rebuilt including new chains, tensioners, valve stem oil seals ,scraper rings , hp fuel pump , coil pack, plugs, various other bits and bobs and cost around 2K and all that was the matter was the scraper rings - cost around £500 ,the other parts were used as the vauxhall technician tried to find the problem , i have now sold the car and have an alfa 147 2 litre manual , 29k and immaculate , belts done and car serviced 6 times in its 4 year life and it drives and looks new , never seen the dark side of 60 mph and i am the second owner , i will never have another vauxhall , my wifes 2 year old astra will be replaced with a focus , my sons 1 year old corsa will be replaced with a fiesta and my daughters 3 year old corsa will be a ford ka in a couple of months time , i e-mailed vauxhall and didnt get an answer , i have had vauxhalls for years ,never again , i really liked the signum, good luck everyone and thanks for your help , Alan Mcfarlane

I have no idea , i am a teacher -not a mechanic , the vauxhall so called mechanic started off by replacing the oil level sensor which meant he had to drop the sump , this obviously didnt cure the oil usage!! he then put the car on diagnostics as it was running rough and thats when he started to chase the problem at my expense , a sorry tale and an expensive one , why wont vauxhall admit there is an issue , why wont they offer some recompense ,why did the vauxhall dealership not help financially after they made so many mistakes , thanks vauxhall and arnold clark !!
