    Default Bmw service light

Is it possible to reset the service due light on a bmw 525d 57rg, the car has been serviced at an independent garage trusted by the owner, but they don't have the means to reset the light, (i know what most will say but! that's up to the owner friend i suppose), i did try the foot brake thingy & a mileage did pop up but the service light shows up on the dial display still. Any ideas & can it be done. on another note! i have asked this before, this is a 525d M sport with 3.0ltr on the log book, is this correct? im told this is 100% right for the M 525d. although the badge denotes 2.5 they are actually 3.0ltr.

not sure about the new 5series mate, i know ebay sell a service light reset tool which was very cheap for the E39 5series, or try a local garage near to you and see if they will reset, its worth a try.

The garage that does all his work is a main nissan dealer but don't have the means, so i don't know if its a specialist job.

think when i use to have my E39 me man use to hook his diagnostics machine upto it to reset service light, i would have thought most decent garages nowadays would have the facilities to reset service lights.

On older BMW you had to earth a certain pin in the OBD socket for a few seconds. Internet search will easily find it.

nice one!, reading the link it sounds like the 'high' display its a very complicate affair with a centre dash display as well as the one in the speedo area where you have to go into the menu to see what part needs servicing, Although the service light came on just prior to the mot so i suspect its fixed to come on prior to its first mot. ill give it a go! & many thanks for the info & link!.
