    Exclamation Damn Car!

Spent a fair amount of bob on it this month trying to get everything sorted on it.

However I haven't had any issues engine related until now.
I drove home from work which is only 5 miles and it was ticking over at 1,100rpm when in neutral, which is odd because even when it was really cold weather it never ticked over past 1,000rpm. I turned off the engine and tryed to start it back up and nothing but a weird eletrical tick, tick, tick. It doesn't even try to turn over. Baffled to what the problem is, anyone have any ideas?

Flat battery. Mine did exactly this (apart from the idling thing) a couple of weeks ago. Try charging it overnight or a booster pack, if you have one.

I have no idea what your idling problem might be. Which engine?

Could be flat battery but how when it's never struggled to start. If it's flat battery I'm laughing, still does't explain why it's idling high that's why I think they're related.

Just gone outside to see if there was any indications that it could be a flat battery and there was none.
I've whacked the key in the ignition and turned started first time tickin over at 800rpm like normal, my car thinks it's funny obviously but I still want to know why it's done that...

    Vehicle : Insignia Grand Sport

My old 2.0T used to rise to 1000/1100 revs on start up, I remember reading on here some time back that initial overfuelling on start up is intentional to prevent stalling. My diesel does the same to a lesser extent, and the revs settle at the idle point (of around 800 revs) more quickly than on the 2.0T I had.

Puzzling. I don't know diesels very well, never having owned one. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Called the stealers and they said it's up to £96 to run it on the diagnostics depending how long it's on for.
A lot of money for nothing to be sorted, is there anywhere or anyone where I could get a diagnostics test done for cheaper?

Has it logged a code? If it hasn't then there is nothing to read so you would be wasting your time a the Stealers. My car has done a few bizarre things, usually only once then never again. I would only worry if it happens again and again.

Failing to start on me again.
It started up fine, idling at around 800rpm, however I've had to whip inside because I recieved a phone call, I've returned outside midway through the phone call to switch the engine off and realised it was idling at 1,100rpm again.
5 Minutes after switching the engine off and finnishing on the phone I go to start it again and nothing but 2 electrical ticks.
    Love my car right now

Don't have a code reader so wouldnt know

Does the light show on the dash that a code has been logged?

Long shot but have you changed the air filter recently if not it might just be worth a check.

I not sure what the issue as I have not come across this one before. Lets hope someone with more knowledge than me joins in this thread
