Default Auto Lights: Anyone tried this?

Has anyone tried the Valeo Lights On/OFF . For less than £40 it looks pretty good.

It consists of a light sensor and some cables that you somehow connect to the lighting circuit. Its got a little button on the sensor to turn the quto function on/off.

For a few quid more I reckon someone good with soldering could make this look factory.

The light sensor could be put up by the rear-view mirror, pass the wire through the headlining down the A-Pillar and hook it up with a VX Auto Light switch.

Any one want to have a go??

I don't see why it can't be done. As the switch is not controlling light function directly, it may take a little while to figure out how to connect this up properly.

What's wrong with just using the light switch to operate lights???

A light switch circuit diagram might be useful.

Auto lights are great. My Mondeo had them as factory fit. There have been a few times when i have driven off in the Vectra without the lights on, because I had got out of the way of having to use the light switch. Not helped by the odd Vectra feature of having the dash illuminated when the lights are not on. Never had a car like that before. Having a dark dash tends to remind you to turn the side/head lights on.

I agree, the only good thing about the wifes Megane is the auto lights and wipers. Though it won't be long before they will break.

Plus, it might be a nice little mod to do If only I new how to solder.

I was looking at the same system on the Maplins site almost a year ago, http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=257320
I asked them if it'll work with canbus cars like the vec c, they said no. I guess because of the rear lights being controlled by the rec at part power (full while braking).

They will work with CAN systems, you just have to mimick the function of the switch itself. ie put the yellow and the grey / green wires to either ground or 12V (can't tell from the diagram I posted above whether the wire to pin 35 on body controller is live or ground) and the body controller will just think the switch is being operated.

I will check tomorrow when I can access TIS.

When set to the auto position the lights remain on all of the time. I've only had the car a few days and wonder if there is something that I have done to cause this. Any help appreciated.
