Default Oil top up, type and rip off

Light came on telling me I needed an oil top up (done 4000 from last V/X oil change), I new she was down abit and thought thats fine.

Armed with a fiver I went in to the stealer to be presented with 1 litre of super synthetic 5/30 and 9.89 (lets call it 10 notes). I explaned that I was in a V/X dealer and not a ferrari one.

I was told all 02+ vectra use this oil, well I didn't think the mk ii 2.2 did but he was an **** are could be bothered to listen. Told him to take it away.

Had to almost drive past another stealer on my jounery so popped in and payed a fiver, I also felt very well served. I was also told that you can run on the cheaper oil if you are around a 10K a year driver. He also told me that you will burn this super stuff as its like water, very very thin but it is good stuff.

These cars are not cheap to run.

I got to be honest mine uses a little oil and yes the super synthetic does cost that amount. I have always used it.

the 10w40 semi synthetic is okay if you're going to drain it out regularly.. but ideally you should use the fully synth as it is a better oil, and the cheapest maintainence you can get for your car.

any yes.. it is dear..retail prices on their 10W30 are shocking..

I found that the old X20DTH consumed far less 0-30W fully synthetic that any other oil. It needed more oil every month without fail, I though it was outrageous but Vx said that it was fine as long as it used les than.... wait for it, one litre every 1000 miles!!!!!!

My CDTI never needs topping up, I check anyway but the level has never moved.

I'll be doing my serviceing I think, as I can buy 5w 40 fully synth for £80 for 20 litres.

    5W50 fully synth is £60 for 20l.

I'll just ask my loacl factor for a price on some Xw30

The 5 litres fully synth oil and the oil filter for 1.8 is about £28 over the counter at VX. And mine doesn't use a drop between the 20,000 mile service it gets. Never had to top it up.

    1 litre / 1000 miles = ****ed engine. IMO

My '03 2.2 Veccy has been using a litre of oil about every 2,000 miles since I bought it with 10k on the clock ... been to local dealer a few times about it but they say that VXL won't let them do anything about it unless it's using more than a litre in 1,000 miles!!

I've had different VXL cars over the years mostly Astras from the old 1.6D through to the 1.8i the missus is driving now and they've all gone between services without needing a drop. High mileage too on them all, the 1.8i now has 120k on it and it still doesn't need topping up.

Any ideas if I can get VXL to do anything about it or am I stuck with an oil burner? ... mentioned it at the last service before warranty ran out so hopefully it'll be looked at as an ongoing problem.

Touch wood, the only thing I've poured in under the bonnet is screen wash, bought on 14K now on 58K.

Never touched a drop of oil.

My 03 2.2 has just started to drink oil like Oliver Reed on a stag night - On a 400 mile trip the level went from bang on max to the notch on the dipstick just above min therefore in another 600miles the sump would have been dry

Gonna go and see the Stealer cause it's still on NetQ but does anyone know how they tell if it's using a litre per 1000 miles, might tell them to check the oil and then go for a burn up to Yorkshire and back
