    Default Rain

What is it about rain, a bit of water on the road that causes huge tailbacks on normally clear roads, people suddenly drive like miss daisy, WHY ! no need, I wouldn't say my driving skills are better than anyone else, you would think living in scotland they would be experts at driving in the rain, why slow down so much, just be carefull, to avoid these tailbacks, I took the back roads and still managed to beast throught them as i normally would in the dry, but thought ahead a lot more, as long as you remeber stopping distance increases and think ahead no need for all this conjestion, due to a drop of water. (aquaplaining) Bring it on, only joking.

All the advice on driving in rain is to slow down. I would completely support this advice, as rain decreases visibility, decreases grip on the road (increasing stopping distances and skid risk), and spray can cause lack of vision.

Anyone who doesn't change their driving for the weather is driving without due care IMO.

How much to reduce the speed would depend on how wet it is...

totally agree, but some folk slow down far too slow for the conditions. i am by no means a crazy driver and do adapt my driving style to the wet. think most drivers on the road today are to cautious. in all conditions.

Also find traffic significantly slowing down while raining. Reason i reakon are people prefer driving when rain as well as side mirrors and windows not clear (most car does not have heated side mirror). The merging maneuver lies on the visibility of side view hence slow speed.

Do you driving pass M8 J15-J20 everyday?

Do you really want all those people who have just 2mm of tread left on their DingaLing £25 tyres to be driving in the rain at the same speed they do in dry conditions?

I agree with Ste, but have noticed, in any sort of bad weather, some drivers slow down far too much. Basically down to a lack of experience I would think, perhaps also a total ignorance of what they and their vehicle are capable of.

Agree with above, and might have worded my post wrong but I wasn't saying you should drive at the same speed in the wet as you would in the dry, just that people tend to slow down too much for the conditions, and when i said i beasted through the back roads, i did so very safely, with the knowlage of what i am capable of and also what my car is capable of. I find most drivers on the road very hesetant at junctions, roundabouts and in general, dosn't mean i drive about like a loon.

A statement like that makes it look like you are saying you should drive atthe same speed in the wet as the dry. Still in general I agree that the effect rain has on traffic generally does seem to be out of proportion.

yep, last post i mentioned i worded it wrongly. Still raining wonder when it will stop. need to have a look at wifes car my old 1.7 cdti astra spewing black smoke, needs a bit of tlc, asked her when was the last time she checked tyre pressure/oil ect.. "last time you checked it" why can't they do these things for themselves, bit of a tangent i know, sorry for the confusion in my first post with wording.
