Default Whats the cheapest way to get a spare key?

As the title suggests, I was only given one key with the car but would like a spare. I have heard of stories where keys cost £200 + So I would like any info on how to get a spare at a good price.

    Cheers
    Andy

You could get a blank key from ebay for around £10, but you'll need an immobiliser chip.

If you can find the remote locking fob with the chip (open fob and usualy find the chip, small black or grey bit that looks like a rectangular bit of stone about 10mm x 2mm x 3mm) from the same year/make & model in a local breakers, you could get it re-programmed at Vauxhall dealer with Tech 2 equipment.

However, ask the tech 2 guys before going ahead.

Usually a simple reprogramme costs around £40.

You will need all ownership documents (V5c and if possible, small credit card sized info card with code on it in the documents walllet which contain service book, how to operate your car book, radio info, etc) and possible a couple of letters with your address (which should match the address of the V5c) or both parts of your licence.

Option 1: Its about £120 from the dealers.
    Option 2: Programme it yourself.

In both instances you will need your car pass.

The above info about the little black chip doesnt apply. The vectra C has the imboliser chip built into the key. Its not seperate.

Older Vauxhalls had the separate black chip which was kept in the horse-shoe part of the key. The vectra-C doesn't use this method.

Buying a Vectra-C second hand key that has been programmed to another car can't be reprogrammed.

You can buy a virgin fresh flip key on ebay but they dont come up very often.

I have advised a couple of members about keys before. here are my old threads:

you can get the relevant blank key and fob off ebay then get it cut
by a key place, then you have to get it all programmed by either a dealer or
    someone on here with tech2

the chip normally comes with the new key blank, you wud be better just to
get the lot from the dealer.

if you pm me the key details, what type fob you need then i get cost for
you but im sure you get a complete key for around 80 excluding tech2

    I got mine for £25 :-)

£15 for the brand new blank key off ebay
£10 to get key cut on ebay
£0 for programming it. I did it myself :-)

As mentioned in my previous threads its rare for the brand new blank keys to come up on ebay. I waited 3 weeks before one finally came up as an auction.

So far I have coded my Vectra-C, a collegues Astra-H and my mates Vectra-B (with the black chip in the horse-shoe).

Its easy when you know how ;-)
