    Default timing belt 1.9 cdti

After bumming to my pals how good my vec is, I pulled away from home then it stalled, tried to start it twice.... nothing..... I checked the usual, then took cover of timing belt, the belt is still on, just all the teeth have worn right down..... how much damage would this have done and how much will it cost to be repaired.....1.9 cdti 150 68K miles on clock .......

You need to establish if the rockers are all smashed as they should let go first before major damage.

If this is the case you need a set of them plus a timing belt and tensioners plus a water pump.

What age is the car and does it have a full s/h as it really should be a warranty job as the change intervals is 80,000 miles.

Possibly the water pump seized, hence the worn teeth?

The water pump runs on the back/flat side of the belt so as i found when my pump was seizing to the point the engine was hard to turn over by hand & the pump was squealing & squeaking, but the belt was only slightly rubbing on the flat side, the teeth were perfect, mileage was 63k from new. so i would say the tensioner has gone allowing the belt to run slack therefore moving back & forth on the gears.

As you say it could seem scary but looking at my belt when it changed it at 63k after pump failure, it was in perfect condition apart from wear on the back/flat side due to the seizing pump. The tensioner on mine seemed in perfect condition.
