Default My first Vec and a few minor problems!

Two weeks ago I part exchanged my E36 320 BMW for a 04 reg 2.2 direct Vec and have had a few problems...

The engine management light came on two days after collecting her. After reading about the Fuel Pressure Regulator recall on here, I checked with Vauxhall who confirmed it needed to go in to be changed. So although I had to mess about getting it into the garage, I was relieved it wasn’t going to cost me.

Two days after the FPR was replaced the engine management light came back on and she had the same symptoms as before. But a quick Tech2 showed a misfire on cylinder two and it turned out all the spark plugs were dead.

The air filter also had to come off as it was dead and full of leaves. We managed to fit my induction kit on and she can now breathe properly and sounds much happier!

So far £15 spent and the car feels completely different

Next to do is change the oil and filters then I can start on the sound system.

    A warm welcome to you.

Sounds like you have a good handle on how to deal with the problems, which is very refreshing as most newbie's arrive in a flat spin of panic! not realising 90% of them are very simple logical matters that a bit of investigation can easily deal with.

Thanks, but I do have to admit my boyfriend played a big part in all of this! I've seen him do an engine change on his Vec B so I don't need to panic about much.

If your car had dead spark plugs and an airbox full of leaves, then it seems the previous owner didn't service it. You or your bf should go over it with a fine tooth comb and change all the consumables that have probably never been done, e.g. pollen filter, brake fluid, etc.

I'm not sure what type of induction kit it is - I didn't pay much for it. I had it on my last car for a couple of months. I've seen posts about keeping the air box but this is a much better option than what I took off And on a Sunday afternoon two days before payday - my only option!

It was meant to have full service history but clearly that's not true. The oil is blacker than black so will get changed asap along with the filters.
