    Default Anger. Misery. Shame.

Just 3 of the emotions I am feeling right now.

I am not a bad person. I do not trip Grannies up on the street or steal Haribo from the Bairns or illegally download music. I like to think I am a decent enough driver, I let people out of junctions, always plan ahead, am aware of things going on and am quite courteous.

2nd July 1995 I passed my driving test and have had my nose clean since. Until Wednesday.

Camera Van caught me doing 64 on a road I should have been doing 50 on. Main road with a 60 limit but was driving the work Crafter. Guilty as charged.

Annoyed though because the artic lorries ALL do 56mph on this road but they never get done?!

At the end of the day, I was speeding so have no arguement.

3 points and £60 no doubt - the letter arrived at work today asking who was driving, needless to say, the Boss had a good laugh at me!

What annoyed me more was that I was in a line of traffic, not tail-gating, just going with the flow, was empty so stopping would not have been a problem if needed, very wide and open road but the biggest thing was nobody flashed. I know this is 'obstruction of justice' but come on, how many people do it?! Well, one less now.

Yes I too have been captured in the works van simply following the flow of traffic..

Sickening isn't it! I've also notice a real lack of the friendly flash to warn you these days. Don't know why but.

Hmmm you have made me think Rob, i sit at 60 all the time in my work transit so i suppose im lucky. I for one always flash and expect to be flashed, so if people are stopping this its very very poor!

I think the law is funny on vans.

Car derived vans (Transit connect, Kangoo, AstraVan, Corsa, VW Caddy etc) are still 60mph but any bigger (Renault Trafic, Movano, VW Transporter &c) are 50mph unless they have a side rear window where they are allowed to do 60mph. Not sure if this is an urban myth though.

The speedo in my Crafter is quite inaccurate so I might have been showing closer to 70mph on the speedo but the sat nav is what I use. I would think your Transit would be the same, Steven.

The flash is breaking the law as I said, but it is a courtesy thing - a warning.

Funny thing, I cannot for love nor money find the paper part of my licence. Just had to pay £20 to get a replacement which will take about 2 weeks to come!

I got 3 points, 7 years ago - for the three years after that I saved a LOT of money on fuel.... by driving darn carefully so as to avoid getting any more. Just think of the money you'll be saving from now on.

But if you were not flashed and then got caught, would you carry on flashing?!

I always flash whenever I feel there is a good reason for doing so. Drivers on the motorway used to use brake lights to warn of a problem ahead, 3 light applications of brake lights in quick succession indicating Plod ahead, 2 for an incident/obstruction....something like that anyway.

I see no problem with drivers warning each other and I would certainly appreciate the same in return.

i drive my works crafter all the time and most other van and wagon drivers flash but some cars dont bother any more,we have really advanced trackers in that my bosses can track your speed so we all have slowed down pretty much anyway

I think the police view it as obstructing them in the carrying out of their duty or something similar. If there's just a 1-vehicle speed camera, you won't get caught doing it, but where there's a copper with a speed gun and some of his colleagues positioned some distance away to flag down the cars he notifies are speeding, the colleagues may see you flashing your lights about the speed gun you've just passed.
