    Default Replacing front subframe bushes

Well ive noticed a knocking from the front end, its had new front arms and drop links so that wasnt the issue.... But i noticed there is 10-20mm of play in the front subframe bushes on the drivers side!

Found a full set on ebay for £60, now the big question is how easy are they to replace? Ive got a machanic friend who helps me do most things, just wondered if anyone had done it before, how easy was it and how long did it take??

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

Very easy in truth, there is a good How-2 on it in that section IIRC a 10mm spanner with the wheels off

Really? I thought it would be a pig of a job. Ive had a look through the how2's and cant seem to find anything on changing the front subframe bushes? Could you point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks for your response

With regards to the subframe bushes, your right is can be a bit of a pig to do, ideally you'll need an engine hoist to support the weight of the engine while you undo the subframe. You'll also need to make up an alignment tool (see haynes manual) as the subframe needs re-alligned hth

ahh i thought it shounded too good to be true with a how2 on what to do. I thought it might be abit of a pig to do, not sure if i can do it on my driveway as i dont have a lift :s

alignment tool, oh that sounds abit complicated, im thinking its going to be an expensive job for a garage to do aswell?

    Sorry sorry mate,

The subframe is easy at one end a nightmare at the other.
Two bolts hold the strut on, two Torx22's hold the rear end of the wishbone in situ and a nut bolt IIRC 20mm on the front allows you to slide the bone out.

    Support the hub assy.

The front part of the subframe bushes need a bench press to get a new bush into

The rear is a complete new bush at around £80, the front is about £5

I had the movement you describe in my Saab bushes, spent a fortune and changed them but still had the same exact noise!

To change the front bush needs a bench press of about 10to

Thanks for the info but i think you are talking about the bottom arm bushes, the bushes which im having the issue with are the ones which mount the frame that holds the engine into the car, to the body of the car. One behind the steering rack at each side and two at the front, at each side of the bottom radiator mounts. Any ideas about these?
