Default Auto dim mirror and rain sensor retrofit without GM loom

Although we have many thread to discuss the auto dimming mirror, but the information is here and there, and not easy to search at all.

The rain sensor and auto dim mirror are from a 02 vectra. The mirror have 4 PINs(no driver door mirror dimming) and rain sensor have 9 PINs(no daylight sensing).

The pinout of 4pin mirror is like this:
    1, Black, +12V
    2, Brown, GND
3, Grey, Pulled up at 12V, Connect to ground to cancel auto dimming
4, White/Black, Pulled down to GND, Connect to 12V to cancel auto dimming
Originally the mirror is connected to the REC like this:

    Mirror------------REC XR8
    PIN1-------------PIN12
    PIN2-------------PIN11
    PIN3-------------PIN10
PIN4 in the mirror is not used. PIN10 in REC XR8 is used for cancel the dimming when in reverse gear or doors open. This pin must be tech2 to activate.

However, if you don't have tech2, you could:
Connect PIN4 of mirror to reverse lamp (white/black IIRC), and connect PIN3 to PIN12 of XR7. By doing these, the mirror will cancel the dimming when in reverse gear or doors open or interior light on.
Rain sensor must be tech2 to activate. It's connected like this:

    Rain Sensor--------REC XR7
    PIN1---------------PIN14, 12V
    PIN2---------------PIN15, GND
    PIN3---------------PIN16, Rain signal
I have a vauxcom so i use original way to connect the mirror.

Bought a 5m ribbon cable and 2 connector, less than £5.
    Attachment 35195

Re-arrange the connector according to a IDC pinout.
    Attachment 35196
    Attachment 35197

Install the ribbon cable as how2, then make two connectors for auto dimming mirror and rain sensor.
    Attachment 35198

Insert the missing PIN to PIN14, PIN15 and PIN16 of REC XR7, and connected accordly, finally like:
    Attachment 35199

Total cost: £4.8 for ribbon cable and 2 IDC connector (2x5 way), £25 for mirror and rain sensor.

I glue the rain sensor to the windscreen with a kichen silicon glue, works find.

Next task would be to find a rain sensor with light sensing, and modify the light switch to Auto.

    I don't mind at all.

Mine is preface but full canbus.

Personally i think auto light on halfcan can be done by add a light sensor and some logic to light switch?

Final effect. Ugly... Going to make a black cover, and replace sensor with auto light.

Great work !! I have all the kit for this also. Only fitted the dimming mirror so far as I need to hide all the work, like you said. I did try to cut some old window tint into the correct shape but fine work like this is not my strong point !! lol

A question if you dont mind. Where did the wires for the sensor go and will it work both the lights and wipers ?

lol, do you really need automatic headlight in half canbus? May be you can fit a sensor in the light switch lol, very easy though, you can use a pic microcontroller, total cost i guess may be just 5pound or something. I can write a program for this, do you have any pic programmer like pickit 2?

The sensor i have is only wiper, i am looking for a sensor with light and wiper in ebay now. The sensor has only 3 wires to rear electric centre(REC).

In fact i don't mind the mess in the screen, as i can't see them from inside the car lol, may be i will put some fancy LED there...
