Second Car Insurance.

Father in law has just put a deposit down on a second car for himself, a little MX5. Now he's just gone to insure it with his currant insurer who he has his Pick up with and they say he cannot carry over his no claims, or he will have to split his no claims in between both cars, so in affect instead of paying a total of say £600 over 2 cars it will be over £1000 for a 69 year old.

So are there any specialist companies that deal with a seconds car? Multi Car wont work as he's got 9 months to run on his pick up so it would have to be a separate policy with a different company.

do they not allow you to set up a mutl car policy on the "promise" you transfer the second car once it has expired?

They said they can only do what I mentioned, hence a totaly different policy.

I insured my Signum, then a week later insured the other halfs vectra on a multi-car policy, the signum gets added for the final week of the vectras insurance, no problems with no claims even though the signum is with a different company. Multi-car policy is with admiral....

Right, after a few phone calls we got onto a classic car/bike firm. End result is no problems, £195 to cover the MX5 and one happy father in law.

Hi mate, it was Footman James. There are restrictions on mileage however but he's dealt with them in the past with many Classic bikes and as always been happy with them.
