Default Vectra C 1.9CDTi SRi - wrong wheels?

    Hello,
Can anyone help please. I've just bought a 1.9CDTi SRi ('05 plate) which has Vauxhall 16" alloys on. They are 10 spoke (5 paired spokes) pattern.

Not being an expert I thought they looked right on the car but staff at my local tyre dealer tell me that they are Astra wheels.

My SatNav tells me that the speedo is under-reading by 8 or 9 mph when driving so I am suspicious.

Should the car be on 16" or 17" wheels?

A friend of mine has a Vectra Design on a 07 plate, his alloys are 16" inch. Providing the rolling radius is the same then it shouldn't matter. You can put 18 - 19" wheels on if you wish, as you go up or down in tyre size all that changes is the profile.
Speedos are out on most, if not all cars, Police traffic cars get their speedos calibrated so they know how fast they are going. At what speed does the satnav say it is that far out? Mine speedo reads 71mph and the satnav says 67mph.
    Hope that helps.

There is a setting I believe in a code reader we're not allowed to say that you can tell the car what size wheels/tyres it has (i'm guessing phyiscal size not printed on tyre sizes) - which adjusts the speedo to compensate. My mate saw it when going through my car with it, he told me rather than me seeing it, but you may be able to adjust yours so at least that's correct.

The speedo is quite inaccurate 5>7mph is quite normal so perhaps a slight underread with the tyres is the issue.

As many others have said though, the wheel size ought to be 17" a six double spoke design on the SRi

No reason why you can't run 16's on any Vectra. But an SRI would have been set for 17's at the factory so you would need to have the wheel size changed on Tech2 to make your speedometer read more accurately.

Not sure if the above is true - arent 215/55/16 tyres/wheels a straight swap for 215/50/17? If the OP has the correct profile tyres on his 16" wheels then the speedo inaccuracy isn't caused by the tyres.
