Default No one is courteous anymore.

THATS it i've had enough, no more giving way, letting folk out at junctions, flashing folk on even if i have right of way, between yesterday and today the amount of drivers that dont flash back or even wave back for giving way is dam rude, 90% of them were women . I am now out for my self and will not be courteous anymore.

Driving standards are poor these days, I always wave to say thanks when someone lets me out. I mean how much effort does it take to be courteous? I do hate it when you flash someone out and they ignore you too.

I always thanks anyone for letting me out, etc etc.

However, I don't let anyone out now. I have got fed up with the number of people not thanking me, or just sitting there waiting for christmas, that I have stopped doing it.

I never let anyone out etc now.

I find HGV drivers to be the most courteous. On my recent caravan holiday to Cornwall (tow from Stranraer to St Austell with side trip to Windsor), I found when I had to overtake a slow HGV they would nearly always flash to let me know when I was safely clear to allow me to move back in etc. No car/van driver ever did that.

I agree mate. Someone said to me that I have to high an expectation of people. I guess I was dragged up to believe that manners cost nothing especially when driving!

    lol...

    Why do you need thanking?

I think your good will gesture should be without conditions attached

Remember that people nowadays have a million things on their minds... and not all of them happy thoughts. Job insecurities, money problems, relationship problems etc etc..

Yes it doesnt take a minute to be courteous, but I'm sure they are thankful even if they dont reward you back.

Dont let it worry you to much and keep doing it ... or everything grinds to a stop

I don't flash anyone out - flashing your lights merely means 'I am here' - I may slow and give obvious space, but I force them to make their own choice if it is safe to move or not.

Someone lets me out or flashes me out and I choose to move - I raise a hand in thanks.

Being an LGV1 licensed/experienced driver I learned a hell of a lot more roadcraft than your average car driver. Wouldn't hurt for there to be a requirement to spend a couple of hours in a truck as part of basic driver training - it opens your eyes as to speeds and spaces.

That is why you do all that extra training for your licence over a standard driver. You are expected to be better and more skilled, and you are expected to be able to deal with other motorists who have no idea what driving a truck is like... Thats what the trainings for...

so your saying that by being an hgv driver that you are a better car driver than me?
you will be a better lorry driver than me cause i have never driven one... but to say because you can drive lorries also makes you a better car driver is not always the case

Spoons, with that rationale, would you expect a "thank you" if you let someone go in front of you in a queue for the post office, bank, supermarket or fairground ride etc.

    Just interested not argumentitive
