    Default Central Locking

    This has happened twice now,

Returned to my car at a motorway services, pressed the fob and nothing happens.

    Pressed all buttons .......nothing.

Open car with key, alarm starts going off and stays on until I put my key into the ignition.

Take key out again and now the keyfob locks and unlocks the car fine.

The keyfob battery was changed two weeks ago.

like I said this has happend twice in car parks. Never had a problem on my driveway.

    Anybody else had this

Dry joint inside the keyfob? Common problem with the Vectra-B and Astra-G fobs - battery terminal.

possibly someone else using trying to repeatedly lock and unlock a car nearby (or scanning for entry codes) and then your car goes into anti scanning ...... wont allow you to unlock via the remote for around 2 minutes to prevent the cars HF remote codes being obtained

I could be to do with the security tag alarm things on the doors. My mates merc key got scrambled by the ones in asda, and years ago I had a wireless trip comp on my push bike, I left it outside a shop and when I got back it said I was doing 82mph!

My key does exactly the same. I am afraid it got worse as well. I am now using the spare one.

Mine did it all over the place, not just one location so jamming/scanning is not likely to be an issue.

I changed the battery and that didn't help, and took it apart and cleaned it. I was told by the dealer (i never took it in just asked them one time) that it resets it when you put it in the ignition, thats why it works again... I think it is forgetting its coding and has to be reset? Maybe a dry joint?

I will watch this thread with interest....

Interesting suggestions guys cheers. I am also glad i'm not the only one.

I initially suspected that my system was being somehow 'scrambled' by another central locking system nearby.

Mucklestone, your post makes perfect technical sense but I use my keyfob without issue on my driveway every morning and at work every night.

Perhaps some electrical sources inside these places like security scanners are confusing it and putting the key in the ignition does in fact reset it back to normal.

was there any outcome to this as i have brought a car 5 days ago and getting this problem. at home, at my work, at my mates so i dont think location is the problem!! i was suspecting the fob but sometimes when i start the car i get a mechanic pic on the dash that relates to an alarm/immobaliser/electrical wiring problem so im thinking the problem is more to do with the car!!
i dont fancy taking it to vauxhall as there having alot of money from me in return for precious parts!!
    let me know. cheers lee

This happened to mine, it's because the parts inside the key work themselves a bit lose eventually. Fold up some cardboard and put it in the empty side of the battery case, squeeze it shut and put the other end of the key on. Jams everything into place nicely.
