Default Running in a new turbo

Do they need to be 'run in'

Just got a new one fitted on my work crafter and was told to take it easy? I thought they didn't need it?

    Default

Generally a turbo is either on boost or off and it is quite difficult to regulate, what I suspect he may have meant was not to drive flat up an mounting pulling a caravan and overstress the new unit until the bearings bed in etc.

It would be almost impossible to drive one of these things without plugging in the hair-dryer at some point as they start boosting at just over idle speeds
