    Default Brake Disc's

    Hi,
I need to replace the rear brakes on my siggy soon, and i wanted to know how do you know if the disc needs replacing as well.

I don't want to put pads on and find that the disc is screwed.

So do you replace the disc's after so many pad changes?

    thanks in advance

    Sam

My rear discs were changed at the first pad change as they were quite worn down.

If you buy the parts from Vauxhall then it's cheaper to buy a brake disc/pad kit than it is to buy the discs and pads separately. Can also apply to other sellers as well. Thought I'd mention it in case you bought the pads on their own then discovered later that you also need discs as well.

The discs need replacing if they are very heavily scored and/or rusty. You will know if they are heavily worn by the lip on the edge of the disc caused by the pad wearing the metal of the disc away. There's no set point to replace discs, one look at them should tell you if they are serviceable or not.

Sound's like the common problem of the heatshield behind the disc touching the disc

You could have a small stone stuck between the disc and pad. Happened to me on my old golf. Just remove the pad and inspect them.

As mentioned above, but also look at the hub part of the disc, it should say the min thickness. Mine are solid and read MIN 10mm.
