If it's AF40, I suggest you go to a repair shop for an oil change. It's suppose to be changed every 50.000 miles. It won't come out more than 2.8-3 litres and for best results you should do this at least 2 times.

All the work it's done from under the car. By work I mean getting the oil out and putting it in. Putting it in it's done trough the same hole.

Default I have the identical problem

Hi there. I have a 1.9 cdti Siggy with an identical auto box problem 2nd into 3rd. It has 72,000 miles on the clock.

Did a simple oil change work for you or is it more complex? I would welcome learning from your experience before approaching a garage with my debot card ready!

    Cheers,

    Andy

I was suffering the same issues some weeks ago, and yes, the oil change has cured the problem (so far). The clunking also happened when changing between 4-5 or 5-6, by the way.

Anyway, an Opel dealer (in Spain) has changed the AF40 oil in my '06 Signum (it was approaching the 60,000 miles mark), and the thing goes like that:
    - AW-1 oil at 14,95 euro/litre (x3)
    - O-ring and something else at 3 euro, more or less
    - 1,20 hours to change the oil
    - 1,30 hours to check, program, adjust, whatever
    - + VAT

So 50 euro in materials, 150 euro for the work (+VAT).

I don't know how this translates to UK prices, but hopefully it will give you an idea of the relative costs (materials/work hours) and the size of the hole in your wallet.
