Boy was it wet today. At one point I didn't think anyone was going to get down the track. Thankfully the sun broke through and I got to see some serious tyre melting!
The diesel were out in force as usual (not mine, I didn't have my licence, as usual) and there was a little bit of an upset between the 1.9 and 3.0. The remapped and boxed 3.0 which were producing more torque and power were actually slower than the 888 remapped 1.9. There was an attempt to go down with a remap and tuning box on the 1.9 but too much wheel spin slowed it to 16 seconds.
The 3ltrs were running both standard and boxed, don't know if anyone was running a remap though. They got down to 15.9 secs and in the wet but just didn't get off the line fast enough. The close torque and power peaks mean that they don't have much range to boot it in compared to the lighter, larger turboed 1.9.
When I looked at the intercooler in the 3ltr it was half the size of the 1.9's, probably because the smaller turbo doesn't dump as much heat into the air. I'm sure a bigger intercooler could help extend the power band, along with some nice air box mods.
The 3.2s were going hell for leather and getting desperate to beat the Mondeo 3.2. To the point that the drivers headlight got removed to give move cold air to the cone filter. It worked though, knocked more than .5 of a sec off the time. Actually produced a sub 15 sec run!
I had a good look round the shinnies and saw lots of things I wanted, which could be good or bad... I'll have to superglue my licence to my butt so I've got it with me for next time.
