    Default Tyres

I currently have a 06 plate vectra Sri 1.8 and the tyres currently on the alloys are 215/50/17 is there any other size I could use without affecting the performance to badly?

    Vehicle : Insignia Grand Sport

225/45/17. VX-recommended alternative size. More choice and cheaper than 215/50/17.

Will this affect the way the car drives and handles?

You may notice some loss of lateral control of the vehicle, but it is minor
    The tyres also look skinnier
The tyre footprint is also a different shape, but the contact surface area is the same

The difference is not large enough to be noticeable between 215/50R17 and 225/45R17
It would be more noticeable on something like 205/65R17 to 235/30R17

Equally you would only get a harsher ride if you swapped from standard tyres to XL / reinforced ones at the same time
That is due to the higher tyre pressures that are required
