Default 2.2 dti head gasket information.

    Hi all,
I've found this site invaluable since i got a 2.2.dti Vectra a few months ago.
Generally good except now i am losing water and gradually it has got worse and i find the header tank pressurised even first thing in the morning with the engine cold, so i'm pretty certain it is the head gasket.

I am going to have a go myself as i've done some other cars in the past myself.
Just looking for information for the timing marks and other relevant information before i give it a go.

    Thanks

Previous experience tells me it is the gasket because the cooling system is pressurised even when cold. There should not be any pressure when the engine has cooled down overnight.
There are no leaks that i can see.
I dont suspect any air locks given the length of time and the car does not overheat yet as i keep topping up.

Do u have a creamy scum if u take the oil filler cap off - replacing the head gasket isnt a cheap or easy job so be absolutely certain before u do it

Had a "sniff" test done with gas analyzer which showed low levels of combustion, so fairly sure it is head gasket which has been getting staedily worse.

is the coolant clean ?...does it have oil in it ?.....the oil coolers normally fail on these and it will give the symptoms of head gasket but with a certain amount of oil in the coolant system ...

There appears to be no oil in the water.
Water loss seems to be more on high speed runs which i assume is due to the higher combustion pressures.

sounds like ya gotta whip the head off and take a look inside ......it is strange for these to have a head gasket failure ..but not a first ...have you checked to see if it isnt leaking from the thermostat gasket and dropping into the subframe where you cant see it ..?

There don't appear to be any drops of water under the car when i do check.
It all ponts to head gasket due to:
Coolant system pressurized more than it should be (even when cold)
Sniff test detected minute amounts of combustion residue in header tank.

Over past few weeks occurence of topping up gone from once a week to daily for last few days.

    No oil in water
    No water in oil
    No mayonnaise on oilcap

Up until i started using the car a few weeks ago, the car had been stood for three years, so maybe corrosion of head gasket may have occurred.

That is why i would appreciate any data/diagrams etc that is available for this engine.
I have tried doing a forum search but have been unsuccessful so far.
