Default Remaps and warranty issues ??

just got a little cold feet about a remap, was defo going for it but then started pondering warranty issues,

The ONLY reason i bought a brand new car and put up with the depreciation is because there are no hidden costs, it breaks down, they fix it, simple .. Will it be simple if I get it mapped though, is it worth chancing a huuuge repair bill because VX spot it is mapped, with all the mapped VXR`s around and VX`s ability to get out of claims is it possible this will be the first thing they check when a blown VXR comes in, then a quick on your bike ?? Loving the sound of another 30bhp but just a little nervous it goes tit`s up and I end up with a 2k or worse repair bill,

I know everyone says they are invisable, but not if they start looking for it, and it could become 2nd nature for warranty claims as they become more popular ??

So whats the views of people with remaps, or those who haven`t chanced it for this very reason ??J

I am going through the very same turmoil of emotions that you have just mentioned Tommy. I really want more power from the old oil burner but im not willing to 'risk' the warranty for the pleasure of a few bhp gains but then i hear about the invisible maps "check sums the same they wont notice" TBH i find this hard to believe

One moment im picking up the phone about to book the remap then sence prevails..but TBH all this tooing and froing is doing mine and the wifes head in..i just CANT decide...

I think in your situation you would be mad but then again you can never have enough power

    Wink

Unless its a VX re-map, your warranty goes out the window...

JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD ONE.

I come from an IT background and used to program eproms for Sharp. We always had ways of telling if people had made any changes to the eproms.

Vx may be **** sometimes but there not stupid!!

I agree, unless you are going to do it through the VXR performance centre I would forget it m8, until the warranty is up.

I reckon you could be right guys, and have probably convinced me, I don`t think minor repairs would be a problem, but if you goosed the engine, which for a vxr costs 4k, then I reckon they would start digging to find a way out, and the first thing I would check would be if someone had balls around with the map .. Guess I am stuck with a lowly 240 for 3 years *lol*

Intresting topic this, I was talking to my m8 the other day who works for Honda. Apparently if someone comes in with a blown Type R engine, they check the ECU to see if somone had accidently changed down to 2nd for example and killed the engine that way. If they have the warranty is void....

I'm in a slightly different boat as my remap is easily removable, so it was less of a worry for me whilst I had the Vx warranty. I extended my Network Q warranty so it's still of use to me that it can be removed.

Vx can only refuse to repair anything if they can show that it's directly down to the remap, as opposed to just a faulty component.
