Default Tuning Box v Remap 3.0V6 CDTi Shootout

While at the DT UK RR day today at Northampton Motorsport we compared figures between my Re-mapped Signum and Harry's Vectra with his tuning box fitted.

    Here's the results.

Robbie's Signum with Chipped UK Re-map

    Power 217.9 bhp
    Torque 330.7 lb ft / 448.4 Nm

Harry's Vectra with DT UK Tuning Box

    Power 220.2 bhp
    Torque 357 lb ft / 484 Nm

As you can see by the figures not really much difference between the two cars, the graphs below show power and torque, the only real difference between the two is that the re-map keeps the power on for longer extending the usable revs by about 500 rpm.

I know that both myself and Harry are happy with the results our cars have produced on the day.

Re-map or Tuning box? You Decide.

Yep, was a great day, so many thanks to DT UK for the invite and to Total Vauxhall for turning up as well !!!

They had trouble getting an accurate reading with mine as the auto box caused a few issues.
Actually getting the power run was fine, but the box needs to be in neutral as the road runs down in order for it to measure the losses through the transmission. This is where it couldn't get an accurate reading.

The power at the wheels, which is accurate, was 99.5 BHP.
The flywheel figure came in at 134.7 BHP, but it is only showing a transmission loss of 27.1 BHP, which is highly unlikely.
The where manuals there which where loosing up to 35 BHP through the transmission, and in reality an auto is going to be loosing more than that !!!
The best gestimate is that the figure should be around 150 BHP, which is bang on what it really should be.
That was running the latest digital DT UK tuning box set on +2. (I had left it at +2 as I wanted to be sure I was smoke free)
It was noted that out of all the runners mine was about the cleanest, not a puff of black smoke to be seen, with that in mind, I promptly went out and put the box up to it's max, it is now at +3, so we will see if that makes a difference next time.

Robbie, you could've sized down your graphs a bit mate!!

And i agree, it was a really good day, got to meet alot of really nice people.

And the highlight was Barney offering me a drive of Sharon's VXR. All i can say is WOW!!! That is one hell of a machine!! The sound, the bucket seats, the short shift box and the thrilling ride make it a very desirable car indeed! Going to look forward to seeing that on the strip tomorrow.

Barney, Sharon if you read this then i want to say thanks!! I was completely blown away by it!

I'll try and get my r/r graphs uploaded so people can compare one to the other. Needless to say i was happy with the results, but more happy that the car is boxed again, as i had been running without it for a few days and oh my god was i missing it!!!

One thing that was noticed on all the car's tested was that the cars which were re-mapped had less power and torque than those using a tuning box.

The 1.9's were about 180-190bhp re-mapped but 190-205 with tuning box
The 3.0's only mine had the re-map at 217 bhp, cars with tuning boxes were between 206 and 222bhp

some good results there guys, whats the drive like between the box and remap? is the box smoother, and on the 3.0V6, which is a smooth engine anyways, do you really notice the fabled kick that a box may give?
