    Default Brodit Phone Mount

Not sure if this should be in here or Entertainment, as it's a bit of both!!

I've got an ipod touch 2g, and am fitting an io play at the weekend. Quite fancy a holder for the ipod, and was thinking of an active Brodit set-up. They come with a cig lighter plug, but that's where my sat nav goes.

Could I cut the plug off the cig lighter cable, and connect it direct to the wires on the cig lighter? I'm guessing there's only a live and earth cable in the plug, so should be easy enough? It only has to charge it.

Any help would be great, thanks.

It is possible but the cable inside is very fine and you would need long strands to get a good connection.. best off soldering it compared to scotch-locks... or ... push the cut cable inbetween the cig lighter and the supplying power lead

Thanks for that. May buy a pass through holder, so it's not ruined if I make a botch of it!

most of the brodit mounts have a cig plug option or a hard wire option dont they?
Anyway, I've got mine mounted down by the fan controls on a brodit mount, if you're thinking of putting it there be prepared for it to get hammered by your passengers knees!

The only ones I've found with a hard wire has a USB port on the end. I don't have a USB socket in the car.

As for the passengers, they'll be told not to touch it, under pain of death

You just need to order a USB socket for the cigarette lighter/utility socket then! One or two USB sockets, or 2 x USB & one utility! You really can get almost anything off the Bay!

Thanks Ollie, but I'm trying to stay away from using the cig lighter for the ipod, leaving it for the sat nav - not a big fan of clutter in the car, and don't like cig lighter plug-ins at the best of times.

Mind you, them single USB one's look alright, and would be less bulky than the plugs. Could get one of them for the sat nav, and use the computer lead on it instead. If it's long enough that is.....
