As i don't have this problem with my 04 cdti 150 it isn't relevant to me, BUT there has been quite a few complaining of this and struggling to solve it!, maybe this could be the cure!.

    Hi rec,
Either a trip to Vx for an ECU update, local dealers here quoted £60 and need the car for an hour. You may be able to find an independent that has paid for the link to Vx that may be cheaper.
No side effects as its a Vx program to cure the issue, please n ote that if you go to a dealer for a service they should update the ECU free of charge as part of the service

but if this is subject to a field remedy - ie they knew it was faulty, and also that they have a solution, it isn't wear and tear, then providing its within warranty, i'd say you should have a long hard chat with VX managers and say that this should be done for free.

After all all they do is plug laptop in through the odb port under the ashtray then pass over the new files. Takes 5 minutes max

£70 for that equates to an hourly rate of £840.

PS on other fixes .....when others have discussed the fact that its a field remedy ( and quoted TIS and the actual field remedy number ) then Vx have either done it free or made significant contribution depending on the age of car.

Personally i'd hold out for a no charge fix

This is how dealers make their money mparks. They always charge for a min of one hour on anything tech2 related or for diagnosis, even though it might take only 5 mins.

press and hold the settings button till you hear a beep

this will activate the test menu on the centre console.

then navigate through the various screens. you should find a software update date on there.

that should give you a clue

Use op com as you were checking the ecu.
The main text box lists a lot of data from the ECU including the software version
