    Default Rubbish local vauxhall dealer..

Got my wife to take my 14 month old Insignia to our local dealer today in Northern Ireland to investigate a warning light about the airbag. She waited 90mins for them to tell her that they can't diagnose the fault because they need a security code to enable them to reset the warning light!!! ( i did not buy the car from this dealer but from a multi franchise dealer!) Surely a main vauxhall dealer should be able to generate a "security code!" from the vauxhall database or are they a bunch of useless unhelpful idiots???

They can do but normally charge you for it.

To be fair you should had the car pass with the car which details the cars security code. To obtain the code a dealer has to order a new car pass. So you can't hold the dealer fully responsible.

And its a Fax job too, which in this day and age is a joke tbh. You would think that all main dealers would have immediate access to this. I remember 20 years ago needing the security code for the stereo on my dads Sierra, nipped into the local ford dealer with the chassis number and 5 minutes later coming out with the code. So much for progress..............

Fair point, but that system did not show much for the likes of security. Land Rover used to do a similar thing, but it has been changed over the last few years.

I lost the details for our Freelander 2 and where you could walk into a dealer and ask for them, now they have to send off for it to prevent dodgy things going on. Typically I found the original details 1 day after the new stuff came from LR.

Just found out today when I asked the dealer I bought the car from that the card was not with the folder of manuals when the car was traded into them so he has ordered a replacement card from vauxhall at a cost of £30..
