Default BMW E46 Brake Pad Renewal...Tips?

Does anyone here have hands-on experience of changing the front brake pads on a BMW E46? (2004, 54 plate 320D saloon if that matters). I've offered to teach a novice friend how to change his brake pads on his 320, to wean him off garage fees, so if anyone's done the job themselves, any advice on what sort of caliper they have, how the pads are released, any BMW-specific tools required, etc etc? Thanks.

Thanks Mate - you're right... I've just searched for a 3 series forum and found www.E46Fanatics.com and their how2 for the front pads shows this model uses the same brand of caliper as Vecs/Signums (ATE) and the process is identical to ours, even down to needing a 7mm hex key to undo the slide bolts. Should be a doddle.

I did think they were similar to the Vec but it was about 2 years ago that I did them, the pad wear sensor is the same design as the vec's too iirc
