Instant MPG showing 9?!?!

Hi all,

Has anybody else had this?

The car is a 2007 Vectra Estate 2.2 Direct Auto, and even if im tootling around town at 3K revs the MPG drops down to between 9-11? Average MPG is usually between 28 and 31.

Is this just a trait of the auto box, or could something else be amiss?

The car has done 47K and has had the fuel pressure recall done.

Any help appreciated, if i cant sort, it i may have to move it on as its costing me a fortune!

That's normal for acceleration mate. It takes a lot of fuel to increase the rotation of an engine, even more so with a petrol due to the lack of torque. Your average sounds about right for the auto box...

I bet going downhill it will show 70+ too.

Change the display from instantaneous to average

Mine drops momenterally to 7mpg so it's normal.

could possibly be trying a DPF re-gen, I believe that the inst consum. rises quite sharply during the procedure

The clue is in the 'D' of DPF...
