Default Hi All Just Bought a 3.2 GSI

Just like to say hi to all, we have just traded our Mitsubishi FTO GPX Mivec (Manual) on a N plate for a 2002 Vectra 3.2 GSI Manual.

It's done 58k full service history comes with satnav (mounted on the dash ????) i am suspecting it was an ex police car but the garage are not sure !!.

I am hoping for similar performance to the FTO, however i know it will not handle the same but thats not a bad thing as the FTO is/was a very very harsh ride and reving to 8.5k was very thrashy and extremely unreliable.

Can anyone give me some good basic advice on this car i.e. Do's and Dont's.

    Thanks in advance.

    Great choice.
Right check the service history to see if the cambelt was changed at 40k, Vauxhall say to change it at 80k but most get it done every 40k (mine was done by previous owner, car now on 60k).
Rocker cover gaskets can be prone to oil leaks.
Make sure you have deep pockets as they are very thirsty.
I'm sure that some people have had a few issues with an oil feed pipe from somewhere but don't hold me to that.
Apart from that i don't think there really is anything else.

It's quite a nice feeling to be able to leave people shocked when they get beaten by a Vectra so try to keep standard-ish (sleeper style), some of the faces on people once they have caught up at lights or in traffic is quite amusing.

Being thirsty isnt too much of an issue the FTO would get 20mpg around town and high twenties on a run, if you pushed it into the happy zone ( past 5.5k) then you would be lucky to see 15 mpg very lucky, however i will miss the cams switching at 5.5k and her explosive aceleration up too 8.5k. Time to grow up though i think and get something a little more relaxed.

Yeah according to the log book the belt was changed at 44k with the tensioner, the rocker cover seals do need replacing i noticed them leaking when i went to view the car and knew what the problem was so i got nearly 200 notes off the asking price, i dont plan to change the exterior look at all.

However i think some suspension mods could be on their way i have been used to a razor sharp Jap screamer before this, nothing too intense or i end up with another bone shaker, possibly some progressive road springs (if u can get them), strut brace, uprated bushings and possibly anti roll bars...

hi, another gsi in suffolk - there's only room for one......lol

get eibachs, get bilsteins, do the plugs at the same time as the gaskets; it will save cash if they've never been done.

a strut brace only looks good, it doesn't do much

    uprated bushing - you'll have a wait
anti roll bars - as far as I know they dont do em
mine is completely standard and its 219bhp with tesco 99 fuel.

I get 30mpg on std fuel.
