About 3/4 weeks ago I blanked my EGR valve off at the oval inlet section.I used the top of a biscuit tin to make the blanking plate. After blanking, the usual spanner then MIL light came on.Then, about 10 days ago the engine light went out and the car lost power and just wouldn't run right. It was nearly like being in limp mode.
Stripped the fitting down and low and behold a hole, the exact size of the gasket hole had burned away!.I have replaced the blanking gasket with the recommended 1mm thick stainless steel one, took the car for a really good blast up the motorway, and fortunately, there doesn't seem to have been any damage done as the car ran fine and really was back up to its previous performance mark.
Although the 1mm stainless steel sheet is difficult to cut the oval blanking plate from,(thats probably why most people blank off at the manifold side),its worth it in the long run.BE WARNEDFELIXX.
