    Exclamation Egr blanking plate warning.

About 3/4 weeks ago I blanked my EGR valve off at the oval inlet section.I used the top of a biscuit tin to make the blanking plate. After blanking, the usual spanner then MIL light came on.Then, about 10 days ago the engine light went out and the car lost power and just wouldn't run right. It was nearly like being in limp mode.
Stripped the fitting down and low and behold a hole, the exact size of the gasket hole had burned away!.I have replaced the blanking gasket with the recommended 1mm thick stainless steel one, took the car for a really good blast up the motorway, and fortunately, there doesn't seem to have been any damage done as the car ran fine and really was back up to its previous performance mark.
Although the 1mm stainless steel sheet is difficult to cut the oval blanking plate from,(thats probably why most people blank off at the manifold side),its worth it in the long run.BE WARNEDFELIXX.

I wonder why it didn't run right then !! Because with the home made gasket burnt away it was back like it should be .... Perhaps a bit of gasket debris was lodged somewhere !!! Strange ..

Didn't catch that one.How did you go on,eventually that is,was there any permanent damage. The thing that ****es me off,is that I had the friggin stainless steel plate already, just couldn't be arsed to change them over!FELIXX.

Ahh, but we have to DIY to blank the thing off totally dont we. I want to keep my exhaust fumes in the exhaust you see... and to hell with nitrogen oxide reductions..

Think I was really lucky, despite a fair amount of my plate being missing the engine seems as sweet as it always has been. Bits of that crap could have damaged a valve seat or scored a bore quite easily

Lesson learned, stainless also fitted now

Looking at the remains of the plate,as the edges seem to be carbonized,I think maybe that the debris was ingested in minute particles and has been chucked out with the exhaust gasses.I'm hoping so anyway!!.FELIXX.

Pay a few quid and get it mapped out chaps. Along with a nice remap it should be well worth your hard earned £.
