    Question ICE help.

I have an Alpine iXA-W404R double din HU fitted after an accident with my CD30 and a fishing umbrella last year !
On friday, i had the Alpine controls for the steering wheel fitted after being supplied with the wrong leads 3 times..!
Problem i have now is if i park up and listen to the stereo, the HU only comes on when the ignition is lit. It was ok before.
How do i get it to operate without the ignition 'on' ?
It was fitted by Bass Junkies in Wolverhampton, should i get them to sort it out or is it a quick fix ? I don't want to be sitting around the showroom for an hour again if its just a simple wire connection !

Could it be "switched on" as in the handbook for the VX radio. I forget the method to switch it on/off)

I've tried to turn it on with the key in position 1 but nothing happens Ed.
Its holding the memory on the station pre-sets so permanent live is ok.

No, i'm not going to live with it ! It was working as normal before so why should it be different because they fitted the genuine steering wheel controls ?

Right Phil, it sounds like when it was fitted they joined the ignition live to the perm live which is an easy fix to get round the Can bus. The proper method is to have a different constant live and ignition live. It sounds like it has now been fitted properly. To return it to how it was all you have to do is join the yellow and red wires together on the constant live in the HU loom.

Actually, its wrong of me so say the "proper way" as most HU's give you the option to have it both ways. It just means you have to physically turn off the stereo when you leave the car. You'll probably find the constant live will have a spare connector on it for the ignition live to plug in.

I see, I want the stereo to switch off when the key is removed from the ignition and come on when the key is put into the "first click" position.
It did this until friday when they fitted the s/wheel controls, so can't understand why it should be any different now
I think i'm going to go back tomorrow and get them to put things right. After all they were paid so they should sort it out ! Just means losing another hour or so of my time due to their incompetence .

Arr right, so it works just like the stock HU, maybe the HU you bought was made for Canbus cars then or they used a Canbus converter, ether way they should be able to put it right.
