Default 05 Vectra CDTi - Cruise control problem

Hi all, new to this Forum & Vectra's! Hope you can help.......

Cruise control been working fine since I got the car a few weeks back. In the past few days, after setting it, it intermittently turns off, sometimes after being set for a couple of minutes, sometimes after only a few seconds.

    Any help would be appreciated?

Sounds just like mine started to act when it went wrong. It kept dropping out and wouldn't speed up when you used the control, then it started to disengage when you tried to increase speed etc, etc, etc. They changed the pedal control but eventually, after a tech 2,the CIM unit was diagnosed as the culprit. If it is this unit you will be looking at about £300/£400 quid to sort.(That's from the stealers).May be there is some kind soul on here who can point you in the direction of a less expensive garage who can sort it.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but look on the bright side,it may be something completely different and less expensive.FELIXX.

I had this problem on my veccy last year. Drove me mad.

It could be one of the following:

    1) The contacts at the bottom of the cruise control stalk could be dirty and not getting a good contact: Easy to clean with some electrical contact cleaner.
    2) Clutch Spring broken or on its way out: Get it replaced, easy DIY job. I think around £10-20.
    3) The cruise control stalk might be faulty: About £30-40 for a new one. Another easy DIY job.
    4) The CIM module in the steering column maybe faulty: Expensive. Will need to be done by the dealer as it has to be coded to the car with TECH2. £400-500

Or have you any other performance issues, ie lack of power < 2000rpm???

I had resigned myself to not having cruise control anymore, I couldn't justify the cost of a new CIM module, when I had the vacuum pipes from the wastgate replaced (easy DIY job costs around £5-20). This brought all my performance back and also fixed the cruise control.

I can only think that the computer knew it had an engine problem and couldn't use cruise control???

    HTH, Mark

Performance wise, the car is fine except a nasty flat spot around the 1800rpm mark. It's only noticable in the higher gears when the engine is having to work harder.

The speed increase/decrease button work fine, so I'm thinking the springs.

    Thanks for the info all!

good test is to lift the pedal when you set it and if that works it will be the spring
