Get quotes from at least two local independents for the servicing
Equally, see what the charges are for a MoT (making sure they can do diesels)

Your local VX dealership is probably Inverness
Typical service cost there would be £150 plus VAT
Most VX dealerships charge "full price" for MoT
However, there may be a half price voucher available
Some dealerships also offer a discount for Service and MoT together

Service it yourself. And keep all the receipts for proof for your service book. Just did my car and all the filters and a sump plug washer came to £35 from the dealers. + £30 for the oil and job done, So £65 for a full service. Its very very easy to do and best of all you know it has been done and propperly.

An MOT will cost you between £35 vand £40 from any MOT centre. So potentialy you can get it all done for £100.

Not recommended if the car is still under warranty, easily disputed by VX in the event of a claim
Furthermore, if the car is serviced by VX throughout then a claim can still be made when the warranty has expired for a proportional payment

If its not under warranty, then for the sake of a stamp, and peace of mind knowing that its done properly, do it yourself.

Mate its a 57 plate coming up to its first MOT. which means the 3yr warrenty is about to finish.
Which means its time to leave the stealer network and get things done for reasonable costs.

Any potential warrenty claims are near impossible after the warrenty period regardless if the vehicle is serviced at VX or not. Its just not worth paying the premium. VX charge nearly £200 for the service i just gave my car for £65 and no more than an hour to do and i have the peace of mind knowing that all parts have been changed and propperly.

Emailed my local stealers and they said MOT and interim service would be £130 inc VAT
    thats £54.85 for the MOT.

I asked what was inc in the service -
    oil and filt
front and rear brake insp (visual)
    level checks
    anti freeze
    brake fluid strength?

but its the part after that he says
"all detailed in a report which would give costs for any additional work which would be discussed with you before commencing."

thats the bit that i worrie about if the chuck a heap of extras on!

the only warranty i would be keeping by statying with VX would be the paint and i aint the fussed about that.
might call my local garage and see how much he is for a service.

They won't be doing any work without discussing with you first, so unless it's required for the MOT you just say no thanks...
At 36k & first MOT it really shouldn't need owt "imo", mine is nearing 120k & only wanted an indicator builb for it's second MOT last month

I wasn't referring to the VX warranty, but any warranty that may apply
In my case, my car is now 5 years old and still under a warranty (the third in its life!)

Check the service book for what is due on the next service
The pollen (air con) filter appears to be missing
Also at 3 years old, it's NOT a check of brake fluid, it is a brake fluid RENEWAL
I would phone them back and check those two points are included, if not how much extra

thats the bit that i worrie about if the chuck a heap of extras on
    That's common
Let's say they check the front brakes and find "1000 miles left on them"
It's only a report, thank you, do NOT proceed with the work
However, if it is covered by a warranty then proceed
Equally, ask how much they will charge and if it seems fair then proceed

When my car is being serviced I stay nearby
If they do advise a part is nearing failure, I advise them I will come in and have a look at it
For brake pads and discs this can easily done BEFORE you submit the car, so you will know how to answer this one, and for that one I would automatically say no

I've been arguing with VX about this, as it should be at least 5 years (as defined by the Sale of Goods Act)
The AA are still working on this for me
