Default Signum 2.8 V6 Turbo advice

    Hi guys, newbie here.

I am going to look at a Signum tomorrow its a 55 plate 2.8 V6 turbo Elite.

Is there anything I need to look out for on these? any common faults?

It's done about 74k miles and I was wondering when a recommended timing belt change is? is it every 40k / 4 years?

    Thanks for any help guys!

    Dave

I think ( i could be very wrong) that you have a timing chain on those so you should be ok. Check rear suspension. I went to look at a few siggy's and a lot had dodgy back suspension.

    My advice is remap it.

It turns it into a ridiculously quick car

Just keep on top of servicing, oil change every 6k or so and mine (Vectra with same engine) also tends to get through spark plugs.

I really don't think you can do better when it comes to performance and comfort per £.

You'll love it mate had mine since july and haven't stopped smiling since. You one of the lucky few as its a 55 plate it'll be in the lower tax band. And dont be put off by running costs - fuel consumption really isn't that bad for this size engine and its well worth it for the power. Me and Dez both have superchip bluefin remap on ours and boy they are stupidly quick. Good luck mate and hope you like it.

Timing chain is lifteime, shouldn't need touched at all as long as the car is well maintained.

Once remapped there really isn't much on the road that you won't be able to keep up with. With 300bhp and nearly 400 lb/ft (depending on map chosen, I went for slightly less torque to protect my autobox) you can easily embarrass some really expensive metal.

The engine is the best part of the car by a mile, it's the same LP9 turbo unit fitted to many different GM cars around the world. If you have the time, have a read through this:

    http://media.gmcanada.com/us/powertr..._rev101005.pdf

The same engine, with a slightly larger turbo, is fitted to the new Insignia VXR.

I've had mine for 6 months now and it still stuns me just how brutal it is in the midrange. 50-80 seems to be almost instant. And cruising at 100, you are doing about 2700rpm, which makes some diesel engined cars look short geared. Watch your licence if you do get one

You'd also be forgiven for thinking that so much torque to the front wheels would make it torque steer and wheel spin all over the place. But with some decent wide 18" tyres, there is really no problem at all unless you go really mad with the loud pedal.

i compeltely concur - the accelerator pedal spends most of its time on normal day to day driving between 10 percent throttle and at rest
thats sufficient to get you to the speed limit faster than those arround you - and if you do stamp on the accelerator pedal hard from stand still or upto 30 mph you had better be holding on with both hands ...... otherwise you will make best friends with the opposite carriageway
