    hi,

    where's the best or cheapest place to get a gsi intake from?

    or has anyone got one going spare?

    Your best bet is goto the stealers, they were around £7, part number 9177099

    LOL, meaning it wont do a thing for your car. It may even make the low rev torque worse.

    Put it this way mate, why would VX put a more expensive part on a car when they could put a cheaper GSi part in it. The length of the intake is tuned to work with the characteristics of the engine. I never fully understood it but as each piston makes its intake stroke and then gets to the bottom of its travel it causes a pulse in the intake, to stop the pulses colliding the intake is tuned to length the same as a port on a top end speaker. I'd imagine this wont affect forced induction but when it comes to N/A, flow characteristics seam to be very important. For Instance smaller diameter runners on a manifold make the air move faster so gives better torque, but wide runners allow a greater mass of airflow so provide better top end. The CDTi and the 2.2 direct have a variable flow manifold so they can do both of these.

    And, ignoring the OP's 1.8 engine for a moment, why did VX decide to fit either a short or long intake to the 3.2 V6?
