Default Great deal at Halfords or not ?????

Went into my local Halfords today to get a pair of headlight bulbs for my wifes Corsa. The assistant asked if I wanted them fitted for £5.99, to which I said no. I then asked how much it was to change indicator bulbs, and she said £3.99. I explained that to change them on my Signum involved taking off the front bumper and removing the headlight, how much was that?. Again she said £3.99. Is this too good to be true or not

Probably is too good to be true - they have a list of cars that it's more difficult to do it on, and once monkey-boy came out to change the bulb he would have shaken his head and said "We can't do that one mate".

    Halfords
"We also sell brake light bulbs, indicator light bulbs, fog light bulbs and interior light bulbs, which can be fitted for just £3.99 each. Pre-booking may be required - contact your local store. Fitting subject to vehicle inspection. "

Mores the point... would you actually let the Halfords "engineers" change them for you?

Does it really take the bumper to be reomved to change a bulb? Surely that is illegal as it would make the car non road worthy if a bulb failed mid journey and could not be replaced by the driver? LAst time I changed a head light bulb was on my old Octavia vRS. It was akward but certainly did not need anything removed from the car other than the cap at the back of the light. Mondeo never blew a bulb so not sure how easy it would have been on the Mondy.

Are the Signum's the same as Vec's, take the airbox off and you have access? I changed both my dip bulbs without dropping bumper or taking units out. Maybe Halfrauds do something similar? More likely they just don't know, as Jezzy said.

There's a Fifth Gear episode where they show how difficult it is to change the headlight bulb on a Renault Megane. They timed a breakdown service technician and it took him about 45 minutes - he had to remove the wheel, remove an inspection panel in the wheel arch, and then try and remove the bulb without being able to see what he was doing.

too good to be true i'm afraid mate, I had the same problem with my golf. I already knew they were a pain to fit so thought i'd chance it with them, at first they agreed then when it came to doing it, they said no.

And to be totally honest i wouldn't let halfords touch my car now after they blew my stereo up last time!!

I have just changed all the bulbs in my 56plate Vectra, although the drivers side was very tight and fiddly, I managed to change them all with out removing anything other than the bulb covers.

The wifes got a Megane and when her headlight bulb went I told her to go to halfords and get them to fit it (Renault wanted a silly sum of money for a headlight bulb).

When they realised it was a Megane they refunded her the £5.99.

Took me best part of an hour to change it (at night in the dark, not that it makes any difference, it all has to be done by feel).
I have small hands and they were shredded.
    Worst car design ever!
