Default Had The Car 3-Weeks And Hit

Just had the car hit whilst going to the post office....by a cyclist jumping a red-light....

He was going at a fair old rate...he's ok...bit stiff but the vectra's took a good whack on the drivers side wing/door area...

Main road and the lad-say 18ish jumps a red light on a busy main road..gotta be crackers....he admitted it was his fault...in his words i thought i could nip out....stood on the brakes as he crossed me from the right with minimal impact but the car's dinted...scratched..mirrors gone...

Having to claim of my insurance...uninsured cyclist can't do anything else...well cheesed off car was going in for replacement turbo tommorow at the dealers which now has been put back a fortnight....

    Quote i have had..

Wings pushed in near the bumper..so new wing --drivers side
    bumper split
    fog light surround
    drivers door dinted/scuffed
    drivers mirror/case
    bonnet dinted
    painting all panels etc

08 plate sri 150 vectra do you reckon it'll be ok?

That's such hard luck. My son hasn't long passed his test and had a similar experience, in his case cyclist was going hell for leather and smashed his windscreen. Took a lot to talk him into driving again.
Beginning to think cyclists should have some form of 3rd party insurance, it's happening fairly often lately.

You should have taken his details, got him to sign a piece of paper stating he caused the damage, got an invoice for the damage, sent to him and made sure he paid.

If he failed to do so, you have his signed admission he was culpable and you could take it to your insurers/Police who would instigate criminal proceedings against him for his actions.

I agree though, its high time cyclists had mandatory insurance. If you are on the road, you are a liability, unicycle, bicycle, car, truck - whatever.

No insurance, f**k off the road.

The insurance company did say this but never went into much detail about it.

the Police struggle to enforce cars etc having insurance, they would have no chance with bikes.
