Got the correct alternator fitted? If the wattage is higher it could be sending too much current down the wires? Just a guess

Surely if you take the aux belt off the altenator it would not be charging the battery hence it will not heat up. I had the same problem on an old cavalier sri, it turned out to be the wiring, it had lost all resistance.
If i were you i would be checking all main wiring & earthing points, silly question was the battery and the altenator brand new or second hand?

The battery that was in was new in December and was replaced last week for a new battery, the alternator was replaced with a second hand one, but the problem still exists, regardless of the alternator.
I took the Aux belt off to try and prove one way or the other that it was the Alternator.

Another twist and I assume its a bad earth but when I indicate (only when I indicate though) the dash display dims with the indicator

Well touch wood lol, I had a voltage drop of around 0.7volts on the cable so I have run another heavy cable (cut up an old jump lead lol) from the Alternator to the Battery (along side the original) and the terminal is still nice and cold. So after a lot of swearing and cursing lol it was the ****** cable all the time.
