Default Oil capacity of Z22YH engine overstated?

Stated capacity is 5 ltrs, but seems to be less...?

Just changed oil + filter on newly acquired 2007 Estate 2.2 Direct. Drained it hottish, including filter chamber. Put in 4.2 ltrs, and expected just above LOW on the stick after running a while. But it's almost on HIGH. Does draining really leave that much in there?

It was wildly(!) over-full before, 5.7 ltrs drained out! Perhaps previous owner just lobbed in the quoted 5 ltrs plus more for good measure. Being that full might also explain a slight oil leak in the timing cover area?

Anyone know if the quote "5 ltrs" capacity is overstated, and where on the stick they measure the capacities to?

5 litres went in mine on last service and when warm its half way between min and max marks...

Im not sure but, I think I read somewhere that it used to be 4.7 to be put in on service schedule, but then it got revised to 5 ..

No mate I'm sure its 5L, just be sure to only take a dipstick reading no more than 5 mins after the engine has been run. The difference from top and bottom marks on the dipstick is roughly 1L.

5 litres on mine, a 2004 Estate 2.2 Direct, marks the dip stick bang on the max mark.

Default How long is your dipstick?

Ok, so now... how long is your dipstick?? Anyone able to measure their’s - from shoulder to tip, as the pic?
I'm wondering if previous owner put the wrong dipstick in. I'm about a litre out, and need to know...

I find mine only takes about 4.5 litres when doing an oil change, is there not something about a reduced oil level over on z22se.com
