Correct, yes. Not the best though - that's Mobil1 0W40 (£32 at Asda).

It is not a fact that Mobil 1 is the best oil - just your opinion. Mobil 1 is not a true PAO/ester based oil it is a group 3 hydrocracked oil. The fact is that the best oils are ester based made from a group 5 base or group 4 or 5 base mix.

Mobil 1 do have the best marketing guys though and that's why people buy it. For just a few pounds more than £31 you can buy a much, much superior oil!

Amsoil etc are the "best" oils. Mobil 'dumbed down' their 'true' synthetics just like the rest of the household names that you care to mention.

Actually it's just YOUR opinion that the above was just my opinion. Mobil1 is recommended by Porsche as the best oil to use....I don't see Porsche owners queing at my local Vauxhall dealer's parts counter to buy GM oil because it's better, do you see any at your local dealer?

Amsoil is the same formula they started selling in 1972 - car engines have moved on a bit since then. Might work well in my lawnmower though.

I haven't expressed any opinion only stated facts. I also don't advocate one brand over another as you do. The facts are that Mobil 1 uses a Group 3 Hydrocracked base oil (they used to use a group 4 base oil but changed this some time ago) and this is not a true fully synthetic (even though by law they are allowed to call it so) but a modified mineral oil. Superior oils use a Group 4 (PAO) or group 5 (Ester) base oil and are the only true synthetics. I'm not saying Mobil 1 is a bad oil but merely pointing out that you stating it's the best oil to use is just simply not true and not fact based!

Surely you must also realise that Porsche recommend Mobil 1 because Exxon pay them to do so! This goes for any car manufacturer that recommends a particular brand as opposed to just the type of oil!

    What ********! LOL

    http://www.amsoil.com/index.aspx

    http://www.amsoil.com/a/synthetic-motor-oil-engine-oil

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx Read the test results at the bottom of that page!

You'll be paying quite a bit more for their best "lawnmower" oil.

Amsoil and one or two others are the only few manufacturers left that actually market synthetic motor oil as 'synthetic motor oil' and not something that is able to be called 'synthetic' because of some legal decision that, ironically, went against Mobil in its fight to claim what a true synthetic oil is. Since that day, Mobil, and others have marketed oil that you get out of the ground as 'synthetic' oil. While others, such as Amsoil, could only find it in their hearts to call such oils "semi-synthetic".
